I've decided to try and move our Speed Passion question and answer thread to here because other forum sites seem to be having issues keeping up lately.

I'll be on here as well as I'll get Shawn on here to answer any questions you guys may have.

Motor Timing

Ive learnt quite a bit talking to Wilson about trying to get runtime,

Twist Endcap Clockwise

Effect: More run time, more torque which means more accelaration (wheel spin)

Gear ratio: Go up a pinion size to lower the final ratio

Twist Endcap Anti-Clockwise

Effect: Less run time, more RPM which means more top speed

Gear ratio: Go down a pinion size to raise your final ratio

This is very true but you have to keep in mind that there is a limit and
to much will hurt the performance.

I have a guy thats been doing some "mechanical" timing advance on his 10.5
and he's turned it to much.

So rumor has it you have some super caps, what's your opinions on them?
We have them on order and should have then in just a couple weeks

I currently have a GT, running with a Novak 13.5. Im going to switch to the SP 13.5. Should I run the same gearing and settings on the GT or what changes should I make?

I ran the first timer with the same gearing and was a bit hot.

I dropped 4 teeth on the pinion and was cooler and faster.

adam

the super caps are very good , i have been using them for 3 meetings now,

they do get very hot which helps bring the temp away from the speedo and
seem to make it a little bit more progressive feel on the brakes,

i think the caps are shipping any time now

thanks jimmy

Yeah, we have them on order, should be here in a few weeks.

I'm looking forward to trying them out on my car.

I know I put this on RCTech but I would be interested in the response from the UK guys.

The BRCA has now released it's 10.5 motor spec rules, all of which look fine except for the following;

Quote 10.8 All motors must have the original manufacturer’s logo or name moulded/engraved into the end bell. A unique marking or feature that is difficult to remove must be incorporated into the assembled motor to identify the motor is either a 13.5T or 10.5T Spec. class motor.

Will SP make an endbell available with the markings on it that we can retro fit?.

Do any motors meet the marking requirements.

Full spec here;

BRCA 10.5/13.5 Specs

From the BRCA regs:-

10.6 The Winding: Only three slot (phase) "Y" (star) wound stators are allowed. No delta wound stators allowed. Only circular (round) pure copper magnet wire permitted. The three slotted stator must be wound with: -

13.5T Class: - 13.5 turns of 2 x 21 awg. (or 0.71mm), & 2 x 23 awg. (or 0.56mm).

10.5T Class: - 9.5 turns of 2 x 20 awg. (or 0.80mm), & 2 x 22 awg. (or 0.65mm)

Does this mean that the Speed Passion 9.5T will be legal for running in this class?

Paul

I've ditched SP,

Even Mr. SP (wilson) couldnt fix my cars problem, and he tried!

Installed new chips, installed super caps, twisted my motor, tried new guage wires.

Still cuts in and out..

So I've given up, sticking with my LRP.

But!

i wouldnt be posting this if there wasnt a reason and just useless complaints,

Wilson (Mr. SP) told me that the New SP ESC, the Revolution 1, will be ready for the worlds and should go on sale shortly after, which is all happening in November,

Also the new SP motors should be released very very soon, (they're silver and they have a different holes in the can)
I am not to sure what the difference is appart from the holes in the can, but the speed differences between the old version and the new version seem to be the same.

Out of curiosity which radio do you run?

Also do you have the original GT with the "short" heatsink, or the newer version "tall" heatsink?

Futaba 3PKs Megatech, Tried running Futaba 2.4ghz system, then switched to Specktrum 2.4ghz system, made no difference except for the futaba i had to have the throttle in reverse.

I had the earlier 'short' heatsink version, but as i said, i got new chips installed.

dont bother trying bro, ive done everything,

new motor, new esc, upgrade esc, different guage wires, different 2.4ghz systems, swapped recievers, new solder..

everything.
