I've had a couple of Nosram X11 13.5s and to be quite honest, they're brilliant! I love them!

When the X12 came out; I hurried off to racing-cars.com and got myself one! It arrived soon after.. and looked very flashy in my pitbag for some time....

However! I've tried running it on a Nosram Stock Spec, and a GM120 sadly I cant seem to get it to work... It's either very very hot, and slow, or cold, and slow...

Tried it again today,

Ambient temperatures of 8C  -managed 8 laps geared at 6.37 before temping at 115C running a "safe" GM profile.. few key presses later, swapped to mode 3 and it's freezing cold, and slow.. finally added 6 teeth to the pinion, now it was sitting at a comfortable 50C but almost 1.5 seconds off the pace.

Previously I've run it on a stock spec, on profiles 5,6,7,8 (yes I know you shouldn't run it on 7 or 8 - but how many times have you touched something after being told not to!)  again at a safe ratio, well over 100C within a couple of minutes...  Also no real change in temps when trying a range of 4 or so pinions in either direction...

So I guess in summary - I cant get it to be quick, or run at a temperature that's within what most would consider a "normal range"

Has anyone managed to get this motor working with either speedo, and be quick, and not the same temperature as the surface of the Sun?????

Look forward to hearing your thoughts,

hey matt

i have had a lot of grief trying to get the motor to run well under a decent temperature. im using an SPX stock spec, profile six with the 1 dot timing insert in the motor and a ratio of 6.95. the car is quick, but not rapid. my temps are around 70-80 after a 5 minute run.

wish i bought an SP instead, they seem to take so much more abuse and love you for it :)

No experience with the 13.5.... i have ran the 10.5 X12 and found it too be a great motor, did a bit of a speed test at Maritime clocking 43mph (a mate bought a speed gun) on a SXX TC SPEC, nothing else was faster, not even the tekins (203) or gm's (7.2 software).. not sure why the 13.5 isnt as good.

Gearing was 6.5 on standard motor insert and punch 8, comes off at 50-60.

However the X12 motors have a melting point of 120, running it up to 90 is safe enough if you can find the speed out of it.

I run my GM120 on Profile 8 with a 13.5 SP V3.0 it is ballistic had no problems with temp ( You Just have to get the Gearing Right ) A mate of mine had all sorts of problems getting his Nosram Going its a 10.5 But his gearing was way off what you would expect

I thought Profile 8 was designed for stock or am i wrong ????

The X12 has a shorter stack and a thicker winding, it feels similar to a 10.5 when you twist the rotor in your hand,

The instructions with the X12 say not to run it with profile 7 or 8 on a stock spec,

I'll give it one last go this weekend and then it's off to the bay! - a little frustrating given it's only done 8 or so runs!

Thanks for the thoughts people, if anyone else has any ideas then please let me know!

I can only talk about my experience with a X12 9.5T with which I did last year's Stock championship.

It was one of the fastest motor, if not the fastest.

LRP SPX stock spec (never tried SXX one), mode 5. From what I heard from the guy that are using the new SXX Stock Spec it should be mode 3 or 4 now.
Motor timing ** (0º)
Final gear ratio around 9.0

I found out this motor likes a lot of high RPM (low pinion) and it can run at 95~100ºC with no issue. I run mine up to 130ºC but the tabs just un-soldered :D
